The students in the DN MADE Materials program as well as the students in the BAC STD2A have create costumes<\/b> in the context of open house on March 4th<\/b>, in order to organize a show blending Dance and eco-responsible textile creation<\/b>. The first-year STD2A students and the second-year DN MADE Graphic Design students also imagined a whole signage system scattered throughout the establishment.<\/p>

A parade and dance performance by the young girls of the \u201cLatino Dance\u201d club was organized on March 4th during the Open House event, where they will wear their costumes.<\/p>

The request was to create a garment, individually or collaboratively, from the practice of upcycling<\/b>, in order to repair and enhance it. The costume was intended to express the design thinking of the students and to allow them to express what they had to say on the subject of nature and its preservation. The chosen theme is among three proposals: earth, sea, or air.<\/p>

Upcycling, what is that?<\/h3>

Upcycling<\/b>, also called in French Upcycling<\/b>, is a technique that consists of recovering materials or products that are no longer used and giving them a second, more qualitative life. In the case of this project, it will involve the transformation of textile pieces such as clothing, sheets, curtains, or accessories.<\/p>

The project took place over 2 months:\u00a0<\/h3>
  • First, it was necessary perform textual, visual, and plastic research<\/b> and make a mood board with each reference and several visuals.<\/li>
  • The mood boards<\/b> have been presented in workshop charrette<\/b> Students would meet in small groups to present their choices, ideas, and inspirations to other members. Meeting each other allowed them to gain perspective on their work and evolve their ideas based on their peers' feedback.<\/li>
  • Figure creation<\/b> Prototypes\/hypotheses of the final costumes have been drawn, provide an overview and represent what the costume might look like when worn on the mannequin.<\/li>
  • Textile recovery<\/b> in second-hand shops (or in their attics).<\/li>
  • Costume making!<\/b> For two more weeks, all three grade levels were able to fully create their costumes.<\/li><\/ul>

    Thanks to this project, students were able to:<\/h3>
    • Respond to a real request<\/b>, with specific constraints such as size for the costume making for each model,<\/li>
    • Complete a project from start to finish<\/b> by implementing specific tools and methods,<\/li>
    • To have the ability to express and share one's ideas<\/b> during intertidal encounters and a staged performance for the open house.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
