When graphics meet music: a workshop with Frank Loriou for 1st year Bac Pro CVPM students
Saint-Géraud High School had the honor of hosting Frank Loriou, a graphic designer and photographer specializing in music, on February 3rd and 4th, 2025. Known for his collaborations with artists such as Manu Chao («Clandestino,» that's him!), Dominique A, Brigitte Fontaine, and Jean-Louis Murat, with whom he was very close, Frank Loriou shared his expertise with the first-year students. Invited to inaugurate his exhibition of artist portraits at the Aurillac media library, Frank Loriou therefore spent two days in Saint Géraud with in his luggage: a complete session of more than 200 photos taken a few years ago with Baptiste W. Hamon.
Objective: Create the poster for Baptiste W. Hamon's concert
As part of the festival Hibernarock, The students faced a major challenge: creating a concert poster for singer Baptiste W. Hamon, scheduled to perform in Velzic on February 21, 2025, within two days. This exciting project allowed the high school students to discover the different stages of poster creation:
- Image Selection and Processing Choose the right photo, crop it, cut it out
- Lettering creation find the appropriate typography, prioritize the text
- Adaptation to technical constraints work in two colors for screen printing
These two fast-paced days saw thirty students dive into the world of graphic design, guided by the expert advice of Frank Loriou. They learned to combine images and text to create impactful and aesthetically pleasing visuals, and to enjoy the process, putting into practice the artist's charming motto:« A record sleeve (or concert poster) is the meeting of an image and typography.« .
The meeting with Baptiste W. Hamon
The adventure doesn't stop there! Final stage: meeting Baptiste W. Hamon. A small delegation of students will have the opportunity to meet the artist during his concert in Velzic on Friday, February 21, 2025. They will be able to present him with the selected poster, signed by Nolann Canet, freshly screen-printed in the new SG Factory workshop, inaugurated for the occasion!
This workshop with Frank Loriou was a very enriching experience for the 1st year Bac Pro CVPM students. They were able to develop their graphic design skills, discover the behind-the-scenes of creating a concert poster, and meet music industry professionals. A project that will undoubtedly remain etched in their memories.
