SG Radio

SG Radio

SG Radio is the radio of Saint Gerald of Aurillac, led by students, particularly those in the BTS Communication program. A true educational workshop, it allows for the conception and production of podcasts, conducting interviews, and covering school events.

Students develop their oral expression skills, audio techniques, and content creation abilities there, while actively participating in enhancing school life.

A studio in situ

Since 2021, Saint-Géraud High School has invested in setting up a studio/control room within the school premises. This space dedicated to sound recording allows us to achieve the following objectives:

  • continue broadcasting cultural emissions (after Les Excentrés, now Cultures & Co), recorded autonomously by students in a safe environment.
  • deploy a team of journalists who would provide a weekly update on the high school's news (each section of the establishment should have one or two people filling this role of journalist-communicator), in the form of interviews, discussions, and «man-on-the-street» interviews in a radio journal.

  • set up radio workshops to teach recording techniques, speech management, and editing.
  • interview external stakeholders, keep records of projects completed at the high school, but also cover events internal, such as «open houses.».
  • make the studio accessible to the entire teaching team to allow for regular recordings on projects carried out in the institution (audio summaries recorded after the end of each major class project), oral exercises to perfect verbal and para-verbal language, or any other activity that meets an educational need.

The Eccentrics (2018-2020)

The SG Radio workshop has created a show: The Eccentrics, which saw significant growth between 2018 and 2020!

Writing radio chronicles on a cultural subject, each week, a team of students hosted a thirty-minute show in complete autonomy.

In order to create continuity and allow for tutoring between newcomers and established individuals, The Eccentrics renewed half of their team each year. Supervised at first by a professor, the participants learned how to prepare an emission control, drive it, and manage recording and editing.

Because the high school did not yet have a studio for professional recording, and for the sake of professionalism, The Eccentrics we started the recordings on the premises of a local radio station: Jordanne FM
