A musical and committed journey! The students of 1st year professional course CVPM at Saint-Géraud High School lived an unforgettable experience by going to Clermont-Ferrand to La Coopérative de Mai, to honor the appointment set with The Black Angels, an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. Beyond the simple pleasure of listening to this talented band, this trip provided an opportunity for a unique cultural and political exchange, as well as an original artistic endeavor.
The meeting with the Black Angels
Last September 18th, high school students had the chance to meet the members of the American psychedelic rock band, The Black Angels. This exchange, conducted in English by students from the Euro option, allowed for a discussion of various topics: the band's history, their creative process, and their political activism. The Black Angels, known for their anti-Trump stance, were able to share their thoughts on the current political situation in the United States.
A collaborative art project
In parallel with this meeting, the students had previously worked on an ambitious artistic project: the creation of a concert poster. Designed from two drawings signed Eva Bourry and Bertil Lavergne, ...we see a decapitated American eagle flying over a cloud of Colts whose barrels, bent back towards the shooter himself, seem to announce a collective suicide: a vision, to say the least, critical of a country that could well lose its mind, subjected to a culture of weapons and violence inscribed in its DNA...
The very evening of the concert, the poster was silk-screened live on the forecourt of La Coopérative de Mai, offering high school students the opportunity to discover printing techniques and share their creations with the public. An hour later, the band had already uploaded their own... social media The «made in St-Géraud» screen print!
The students enjoyed a picnic in the sun before returning to Aurillac late at night., Tired, but happy. This day will remain etched in their memories as a highlight of their schooling, blending culture, politics, and artistic creation.
