On the occasion of the preview release of Jan Kounen's film October 20, 2025 at Le Cristal cinema, the second-year vocational students of Saint-Géraud High School of Design, Crafts, and Communication In Aurillac, they took on a major creative challenge.
Inspired by the cult film The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) of Jack Arnold, they imagined and created an immersive scenography allowing the viewer to dive into this fascinating universe where the scale of things is turned upside down.
A collective and interdisciplinary project
Several departments within the institution have combined their expertise:
- CAP Signage and Graphic Decorations design and manufacturing of decorative elements and signage.
- Vocational Baccalaureate in Arts and Crafts - Plurimedia Visual Communication : creation of posters, illustrations, and animations inspired by the film.
- Vocational Baccalaureate in Crafts and Applied Arts - Visual Merchandising : Design and staging of the scenography: sets, sculptures, spatial arrangements…
A creative adventure fueled by cinema
The students drew inspiration from the film's main themes: changes of scale, fear, anxiety and the unknown, light and shadow effects, framing, and cinematic points of view.
These elements have allowed them to develop their artistic vision and fully express their creativity.
An immersive space… and a beautiful shared event
The completed installation is a testament to a genuine collaborative work and of one strong student involvement. After several weeks of creation, the project concluded with a friendly tasting session high school. One a vernissage was also organized at Le Cristal cinema, followed by the screening of the film. The parents, partners, and project stakeholders were warmly invited to share this moment.
An ambitious project, blending cinema, visual arts, and scenography, which highlights dynamism trainings from Saint Géraud and the talent of his students.
